Chinese and Canadian officials signed an agreement in Beijing on Tuesday to strengthen scientific cooperation in the field of energy, biotechnology, health, environment and agriculture.

The agreement was signed by Xu Guanhua, China's minister of science and Canadian International Trade Minister David Emerson.

Emerson said Canada will invest 5.25 million Canadian dollars (about US$4.65 million) to support bilateral scientific cooperation.

The two countries will also promote dialogue and cooperation in the field of intellectual property rights protection, according to the agreement.
