Chad will stick to the one-China policy and support China in its reunification cause, Chad President Idriss Deby said on Wednesday.

 

At the Presidential Palace, Deby met a Chinese delegation led by Zhai Jun, assistant foreign minister and envoy of the Chinese government, who was in N'Djamena to attend Deby's inauguration ceremony.

 

Zhai delivered to Deby a letter from President Hu Jintao.

 

Zhai said the resumption of diplomatic ties between Beijing and N'djamena would serve the fundamental interests of the two peoples and provide a political groundwork for both sides to resume friendly exchanges and conduct cooperation in all fields.

 

China hopes to boost high-level contacts, deepen cooperation and strengthen coordination in international affairs with Chad, headed.

 

Deby spoke highly of the normalization of ties between Chad and China. He underlined that Chad will stick to the one-China policy and support China in its reunification cause.

 

Chad is willing to reinforce exchanges and cooperation with China in various fields, so as to achieve a win-win situation of mutual benefit and seek common development, said Deby.

 

Deby was sworn in on Tuesday as Chad's president for another 5-year term. Among the leaders attending the inauguration ceremony were Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir and Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi.
