Uruguayan Vice President Rodolfo Gustavo Nin Novoa said Monday he hoped the justice departments of Uruguay and China would strengthen mutual exchanges and cooperation.
Novoa made the statement at a meeting with Jia Chunwang, visiting procurator-general of China's Supreme People's Procuratorate.
Jia's visit would contribute to the promotion of Uruguayan-Chinese cooperation and exchanges, said Novoa, also speaker of the Uruguayan parliament.
He hoped the strengthened cooperation between the two countries' justice departments would help spur the development of bilateral political, economic and cultural ties.
The Chinese delegation, headed by Jia, arrived in Montevideo Saturday at the invitation of the Uruguayan government. It was the first visit to Uruguay by Chinese prosecutors.
