A former Communist Party official who was in charge of the committee that is tasked with rooting out corruption has been sent to prison for 10 years for taking bribes, in east China's Anhui Province.

Shang Jun, 52, was convicted of taking bribes worth 900,000 yuan (US$115,979) between 1992 and 2005, according to the Intermediate People's Court of Anqing City.

She was also found guilty of accepting property worth 980,000 yuan (US$126,289) from unidentified sources, said the court.

Between 1992 and 2005, Shang worked was vice mayor, secretary of the Fuyang City CPC discipline inspection committee and deputy secretary of the Fuyang City Party Committee.

From April to October 2005 she worked as deputy director of the Provincial Health Department of Anhui. She was arrested in March 2006.

She took bribes for arranging jobs and construction contracts for others, according to the court.
