Vice Premier Encourages Young Migrant Workers
Adjust font size:

Chinese Vice Premier Hui Liangyu on Friday urged young migrant rural workers to "aim high and work hard" to contribute to the development of China.

In his message to a national conference on young migrant rural workers in Fuzhou, eastern Fujian Province, Hui said that young rural workers migrating into cities were a dynamic force emerging from the country's economic reforms and a significant component of the socialist modernization drive.

Hui said he hoped young migrant rural workers would strive to be exemplary pioneers in abiding by laws and getting rich by doing honest labor.

He urged the Communist Youth League, a organization for young Chinese, to provide more technical training to rural migrant laborers and defend their legitimate interests.

With the acceleration of urbanization, more young Chinese would migrate from rural areas into cities. The Communist Youth League must mobilize all its branches and offer practical helps to them, Hui said.

China's migrant worker population stands at 120 million, about 13.3 percent of the total rural population, according to official figures.
