Oscar-winning director John Woo will go back to his Asian roots in his new film, entitled The Entrance to the Heaven, to begin production in September, after he has achieved great success in Hollywood over the past few years.
The film master has often boasted that he would one day return to his home country to make a Chinese film, in order to help Chinese films receive worldwide recognition. Now the director seems to be making his words a reality.
The Entrance to the Heaven will be Woo's first film after his return to Asian turf, so he attaches much importance to it, and a total of 47 million HK dollars, over US$6 million, will be injected into the project.
Adapted from John Woo's 1990 work Bullet in the Head the film is based on a sinister Shanghai gang in 1930s.
A Hong Kong heavyweight lineup, including Daniel Wu, Tsu Chi and Chen Chang, will team up to portray a complicated love triangle in the upcoming blockbuster.
