Chinese master filmmaker Feng Xiaogang has told the TV host Yang Lan in an interview that he wants to "drop the game" and is considering a retreat from the movie circle in two years.
The director said he has overdrawn too much of his health for a long time and discovered he had heart disease when he was working on a project in the United States.
One of his long-cherished wishes is to shoot a film about intellectual women, called Looking Back 1942. To satisfactory end his film career full-stop, Feng said he would give up his part of the earnings and even commit some of his own money if any investors join in the project.
The film is based on the novel of the same name by a Shanghai female writer Chen Feiling, and the writer is also said to be joining the fierce competition of the lineup for the director's last work.
