Migrant Women Get Assistance to Identify Traps
Adjust font size:

One hundred thousands copies of a handbook are being distributed to incoming migrant women at train stations and bus terminals in Dongguan, Guangdong Province, in a move to help them better protect themselves.

The booklet contains useful tips for avoiding human trafficking, which is a big problem for migrant women in the city.

The migrants, who usually come from rural villages in other provinces in the hopes of finding a better life, are warned to look out for possible traps. They are told to not talk to strangers at bus and train stations and always remember the contact information for local police and women' s federations in case of an emergency.

The southern city of Dongguan receives a large number of migrant workers annually, and women account for a big portion. They are an easy target for human traffickers, who try to force them to become sex workers.
