Shanghai housewives are striking back against profit-hungry mooncake manufacturers by calling on people to make their own.
The accomplished cooks have posted detailed instructions on how to make mooncakes on the Internet, complete with personal tips and photos.
The housewives claim that most mooncakes sold on the market are too rich in sugar and fat. They also criticize the products for being unnecessarily over-packaged.
One woman who wrote an online mooncake recipe said it's easy to find all the ingredients in a supermarket. She added that her home-made mooncakes are healthy and bond the family together.
This year the Moon Festival, or Mid-Autumn Festival, falls on October 6.
