The Aheytubiek Port is located in Habahe County, Altay Prefecture. It is 117 kilometers from the county seat, 284 kilometers from Altay and 829 kilometers from Urumqi. Aheybiek's Kazakh counterpart is Alekseyevka Port in Shyghys Qazaqstan Oblast.
In August 1992, the governments of China and Kazakhstan agreed to open the port to people from both countries. It was formally opened in March 1994, although much of it is under construction at the time of this writing. When completed, it will be capable of handling 20,000 tons of goods and 10,000 passengers annually.
