Chinese President Hu Jintao is expected to arrive in Morocco on Monday, the third leg in his five-nation tour, which will also take him to Nigeria and Kenya.

 

The following is a chronology of key exchange of visits between Chinese and Moroccan leaders since the 1990s.

 

November 11-16, 1991: Moroccan Crown Prince Sidi Mohammed paid an official goodwill visit to China.

 

June 29 to July 2, 1992: Chinese President Yang Shangkun paid an official visit to Morocco, during which China and Morocco signed an agreement on economic and technological cooperation.

 

October 3-5, 1995: Chinese Premier Li Peng paid an official goodwill visit to Morocco. During the visit, the two sides signed a document on China's donation to Morocco and an implementation plan on cultural cooperation.

 

December 3-7, 1998: Moroccan Prime Minister Abderrahmane Youssoufi paid an official visit to China.

 

October 27-30, 1999: Chinese President Jiang Zemin paid a state visit to Morocco, during which the two nations signed framework agreements to offer preferential loans to Morocco and issued a joint communiqué.

 

April 25-28, 2001: Li Ruihuan, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) paid an official goodwill visit to Morocco.

 

February 4-9, 2002: Moroccan King Mohammed VI paid a state visit to China. During the visit, China and Morocco signed eight agreements in such fields as economic and technological cooperation, environmental protection, social development and employment, health, tourism and journalism.

 

August 27-29, 2002: Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji paid an official goodwill visit to Morocco, during which China and Morocco signed five cooperation agreements in fields such as economy, science and technology, and culture.

 

September 4-6, 2005: Wu Bangguo, chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress (NPC) paid an official goodwill visit to Morocco. During the visit, China and Morocco signed a series of cooperation agreements.
