A total of 2,951 deputies to the National People's Congress (NPC), China's top legislature, attended the fifth plenary meeting of the on-going session Saturday morning.
The meeting is scheduled to elect chairman, vice chairpersons and members of the 10th NPC Standing Committee, president and vice president of the People's Republic of China (PRC), and chairman of the Central Military Commission (CMC) of the PRC.
According to methods of election and appointment of the NPC session, the chairman and vice chairmen of the NPC Standing Committee, president and vice president of the PRC, and the CMC chairman will be elected from the equal number of candidates by secret ballots. The candidates only need a simple majority to get elected.
