Ba Jin      

Vice chairman of the 10th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC).

Born in 1904, native of Chengdu, Sichuan Province; without party affiliation.

Studied at Chengdu Foreign Language Special School in 1921, and in France in 1927-1929; engaged in literature and art creation after returning to China in 1929.

Editor-in-chief of Cultural Life Publishing House and Pingming Publishing House in Shanghai in 1935-1950; editor-in-chief Pingming Publishing House, vice chairman of Shanghai Federation of Literary and Art Circles, and chairman of Chinese Writers' Association Shanghai Branch after 1950.

Vice chairman of Chinese Writers' Association and chief editor of Literary and Art Monthly, Harvest and Shanghai Literature after 1953; chairman of Shanghai Federation of Literary and Art Circles after 1962; chairman of Chinese Writers' Association, vice chairman of China Federation of Literary and Art Circles, and vice chairman of CPPCC Shanghai Committee 1977-1983; vice chairman of CPPCC National Committee and chairman of Chinese Writers' Association since 1983.

Delegate to full-member meeting of 1st CPPCC; vice chairman of 6th to 9th CPPCC National Committee.

Deputy to the 1st to 5th National People's Congress (NPC); member of 5th NPC Standing Committee.
