Presidium of CPPCC Session Holds Second Meeting

The presidium of the first session of the 10th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), China's top advisory body, held its second meeting in Beijing Sunday afternoon.

The meeting, presided over by Jia Qinglin, member of the Political Bureau of the Standing Committee of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and chair of the executive chairmen meeting of the presidium, adopted in principle the draft procedures for elections at the first session of the 10th CPPCC National Committee submitted by the executive chairmen meeting of the presidium, the draft list of the chairman, vice-chairmen, secretary-general and executive members of the 10th CPPCC National Committee, the draft political resolution of the first session of the 10th CPPCC National Committee, and the draft resolution of the first session of the 10th CPPCC National Committee on the work report of the 9th CPPCC Standing Committee.

The meeting decided to submit all these drafts for discussion and consultation among all CPPCC members.

According to the draft procedures for elections, the chairman, vice-chairmen, secretary-general and executive members of the 10th CPPCC National Committee will be elected from the equal number of candidates through secret ballots.

Entrusted by the CPC Central Committee, Liu Yandong, head of the United Front Work Department of the CPC Central Committee, explained the proposed list of chairman, vice-chairmen, secretary-general and executive members for the new CPPCC National Committee, put forward by the CPC Central Committee.

It is learned that there are one candidate for the chairman of the 10th CPPCC National Committee, 24 for vice-chairmen as against 31 for the 9th CPPCC National Committee, one for secretary-general, and 299 for executive members.
