Hu Jintao, newly-elected general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, vowed Friday that the new CPC central leadership would live up to the trust of Party members and the expectations of people across the country, and work hard for the country's socialist modernization.
"On behalf of all members of the newly-elected central leadership, I thank all comrades of the Party for their trust," said Hu at a meeting with Chinese and overseas journalists covering the 16th CPC National Congress.
"We will live up to the great trust of the entire Party and the expectations of people across the country, hold high the great banner of Deng Xiaoping Theory, fully implement the important thought of Three Representatives, and earnestly fulfill various tasks put forth by the 16th Party Congress," said Hu.
"We will closely unite with and depend on the entire Party and people of all ethnic groups across China, carry on the past and keep pace with the times, and work hard for building a well-off society in an all-round way, accelerating socialist modernization and striving to usher in a brand new situation for the cause of socialism with Chinese characteristics," he added.
