The 16th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) held its First Plenary Session Friday in Beijing.

CPC Central Committee's 198 full members and 158 alternate members attended the plenum. Members of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI) were also present.

Hu Jintao presided over the plenary session and delivered an important speech.

The plenum elected members and alternate member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, members of the Political Bureau's Standing Committee, and general secretary of the Central Committee.

In accordance with nominations by the Standing Committee of the Central Committee Political Bureau, the plenum adopted a list of members of the Secretariat of the Central Committee and decided on the formation of the Central Military Commission.

It also approved the list of secretary, deputy secretaries and Standing Committee members of the CCDI, who were elected at CCDI's First Plenary Session.
