CPC Congress Presidium Holds Third Meeting

The presidium of the 16th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) held its third meeting in Beijing Wednesday morning.

The meeting, presided over by Jiang Zemin, approved by a show of hands the lists of candidates for members and alternate members of a new CPC Central Committee and of candidates for members of a new Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI), in line with the results of marginal preliminary elections by all delegations. The meeting decided to submit the lists to the delegations for deliberation.

Starting from Monday, the delegations held full deliberation about the preliminary lists of candidates for members and alternate members of a new CPC Central Committee and of candidates for members of a new CCDI.

Marginal preliminary elections of candidates for the members and alternate members of a new CPC Central Committee and for members of the CCDI were held Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday morning.

The preliminary elections were conducted under supervision of scrutineers in accordance with the election method of the congress.

The 16th CPC National Congress will hold formal elections Thursday morning.
