16th CPC National Congress Opens

The 16th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) opened in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on Friday morning.

Jiang Zemin is delivering a report at the congress on behalf of the 15th CPC Central Committee.

Li Peng is presiding over the meeting attended by 2,134 delegates.
