The people�s congress system is the country�s basic political system. On December 4, 1982, the Fifth Session of the Fifth National People�s Congress was convened in Beijing. It adopted the new Constitution of the People�s Republic of China. This symbolized the beginning of a new era for China�s socialist democracy and legal system.
