Over 100 Chinese and foreign experts and scholars gathered in Beijing Tuesday to attend an international symposium on world socialism in the 21st century.
Li Tieying, president of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), sent a congratulatory message to the meeting during which participants expressed optimism with regard to the future of socialism in the world.
At the start of the 21st century, world socialism is facing new and complex challenges with respect to its evolution, said the official in his letter.
Li called for careful study of the experience and theoretical achievements made by world socialism in the last century, stressing that this research is necessary to carry out theoretical studies on the prospects of world socialism for the 21st century.
The symposium was sponsored by the Center on the Research of World Socialism of the CASS. Li Shenming, vice-president of the CASS and director of the center, gave the keynote address.
