Song Defu      

Song Defu, of the Han ethnic group, was born in February 1946. A native of Yanshan, Hebei Province, with a junior college education background, Song began his career in October 1965 and joined the Communist Party of China (CPC) in December of that year.

Since 1972, Song had successively served as a secretary, deputy section chief, section chief and division chief in the Organization Department of the Political Department of the Air Force of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA), and deputy chief of the Division of Youth Work of the Organization Department of the PLA General Political Department.

In December 1983, he took up the post of member of the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Youth League (CCYL), and became first secretary of the Secretariat of the CCYL Central Committee in August 1985.

In March 1993, he began serving as minister of personnel and secretary of the ministry's CPC leading group, and concurrently acted as a member and office chief of the State Commission for Public Sector Reform in May 1993, as deputy director of the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee in July 1993, and as deputy secretary of the Work Committee for Large Enterprises of the CPC Central Committee from June 1998 to December 1999.

Since December 2000, Song has been a member, a standing committee member and secretary of the CPC Fujian Provincial Committee.

He was an alternate member of the 12th CPC Central Committee, and a member of the 13th and 14th CPC Central Committee, and is now a member of the 15th CPC Central Committee.
