Wang Lequan, of the Han ethnic group, was born in December 1944. A native of Shouguang County, Shandong Province, Wang began his career in September 1965 and joined the Communist Party of China (CPC) in March 1966. He received a postgraduate education at the Party School of the CPC Central Committee and is now a member of the 15th CPC Central Committee, secretary of the CPC Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Regional Committee, and first secretary and first political commissar of the CPC Committee of the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps.
Wang once served as secretary of the CPC Daotian Commune Committee of Shouguang County, Shandong Province, deputy secretary and secretary of the CPC Shouguang County Committee, deputy director and chairman of the Shouguang County Revolutionary Committee, deputy secretary of the Shandong Provincial Committee of the Chinese Communist Youth League, deputy secretary and secretary of the CPC Liaocheng Prefectural Committee, and vice-governor of Shandong Province. He then acted as a standing committee member of the CPC Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Regional Committee, vice-governor of Xinjiang, and deputy secretary and acting secretary of the CPC Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Regional Committee. He was an alternative member of the 14th CPC Central Committee.
