Li Jianguo, a native of Juancheng County, Shandong Province, was born in April 1946.
A graduate from the Chinese Language Department of the Shandong University, Li began his career in September 1969 and joined the Communist Party of China (CPC) in June 1971.
He worked with the Bureau of Culture and Education of Ninghe County, Tianjin Municipality, the Publicity Department of the CPC Ninghe County Committee, the Publicity Division of the Agriculture Committee of Tianjin Municipality, and the General Office of the CPC Tianjin Municipal Committee.
Since April 1981, Qian had successively held the posts of deputy director of the Office of the General Office of the CPC Tianjin Municipal Committee, deputy director and director of the General Office, and deputy secretary-general and secretary-general of the CPC Tianjin Municipal Committee.
Beginning from September 1991, he successively served as standing committee member and secretary of the CPC Tianjin Municipal Committee, and secretary of the CPC Heping District Committee of Tianjin Municipality.
Qian was appointed deputy secretary of the CPC Tianjin Municipal Committee in August 1992 and secretary of the CPC Shaanxi Provincial Committee in August 1997.
In January 1998, he took up offices of secretary of the CPC Shaanxi Provincial Committee, chairman of the Standing Committee of the Shaanxi Provincial People's Congress and secretary of its leading Party group.
In May 1998, he was appointed secretary of the CPC Shaanxi Provincial Committee.
On March 26, 2007, he was appointed secretary of the CPC Shandong Provincial Committee. Li was delegate to the 14th and 15th CPC National Congress, and alternate member of the 14th CPC Central Committee, and is member of the 15th CPC Central Committee and deputy to the Ninth National People's Congress.
