Two Iraqis were killed and 40 others wounded in Baghdad on Sunday when soccer fans fired weapons into the air to celebrate their team's won in 2007 Asian Cup, an Interior Ministry source said.
"According to our reports, Baghdad hospitals received two bodies killed by random shootout and some 40 others were wounded," the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.
Thousands of Iraqi fans took to the streets celebrating a 1-0 win over Saudi Arabia in the 14th Asian Cup final in Jakarta, Indonesia, defying vehicle curfews and gunfire ban.
Also on Sunday, a suicide truck bomb struck an Iraqi army and police checkpoint near a town in Salahudin province north of Baghdad, killing six security members and wounding four, a provincial police source said.
"A suicide bomber rammed his explosive-laden truck into a joint Iraqi army and police checkpoint in the afternoon near the town of Balad, 80 km north of Baghdad, killing six soldiers and policemen, " the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.
Insurgents often attack Iraqi security forces, accusing them of collaborating with the US occupation.
