Five people were killed and eight others were injured when a car bomb went off at a popular market in southwestern Baghdad on Wednesday, a well-informed police source told Xinhua.
"A car bomb parking at a popular market in the Baiyaa neighborhood detonated at about 5:00 PM (13:00 GMT), killing five people and wounding eight others," the source said on condition of anonymity.
The blast damaged several nearby cars and shops, he added.
Violence rages on in Iraq as car bombings and roadside bombs and assassination cause dozens of civilian casualties daily.
