Thanks to loving care from a villager, a macaque monkey wounded in a wild boar trap a month ago has recovered and was returned to the wild on Monday.
The macaque, or rhesus monkey, had its upper right limb broken by the trap and was found dying in the forest by Fu Qingyun, a villager from Wuyi County, Zhejiang Province. Fu brought the macaque home and treated it with Chinese herbs.
When Fu reported the macaque to the local forestry bureau, he was told the monkey is a species of nationally protected wildlife and was advised to set it free.
