One hundred and fifty seven Chinese ministerial-level officials planted more than 1,000 trees in Mentougou District, the southwest suburb of Beijing, on Saturday.
Li Yucai, deputy director of the State Forestry Administration, said the ministerial-level officials' tree-planting campaign in Beijing has been going on for six consecutive years.
These high officials have planted 11,540 trees during the past six years in Beijing, which pushed forward tree-planting activities among all Chinese citizens, Li said.
By the end of 2006, Chinese citizens have planted more than 49.2 billion trees in numerous voluntary tree planting activities.
