Int'l Cooperation on Environmental Policy Crucial
Adjust font size:

Former German Ministerial Counselor Siegfried Lengl has called for further international cooperation on environmental policy.

He made the call while addressing the ongoing 14th World Productivity Congress (WPC) in Shenyang, capital of northeast China's Liaoning Province.

As the world economy surges forward, international cooperation on environmental protection has become increasingly important, Lengl said.

"Global markets necessitate global cooperation in the field of environmental protection," Lengl said.

Other countries, especially emerging and developing countries, must be allowed to share the knowledge acquired over the last few decades so that they can catch up ecologically with the developed countries, Lengl said.

Sustainable global development also provides an opportunity to use excellent new ecological products to improve environmental and living conditions, he added.

He said "damage to the environment has made worldwide cooperation a central focus of environment policy."

More than 1,000 participants from industry, commerce and public services from all over the world are attending the 14th WPC whose theme is "Pursuing Scientific and Sustainable Growth in Productivity and Performance."

The congress will close on Tuesday.
