Drought Hits South China

In the first picture a Leizhou Peninsula peasant measures the gaps on the cracked bottom of the dry Hualin reservoir in Xuwen County, Guangdong Province.

The population has experienced several serious drought for the past few years, causing abandonment of once arable land. Meteorologists said the drought will continue until May.
