Taiwan pop megastar Jay Chou (L) promotes his directorial debut Secret Cannot Be Told with his lead actress Guey Lun-mei (R) at the Shanghai Film Festival on Thursday.

Jay Chou, the first-time director, brought his film debut Secret Cannot Be Told to the Shanghai Film Festival on Thursday.

During a press conference, the pop singer-cum-actor made himself clear that he was the only director on the film.

Chou says that he is worried that people might question if the work was all done by him. To avoid this problem, he even refused veteran director Andrew Lau Wai Keung to visit him during shooting. However, Chou says that he did send a pilot film to Lau afterwards.

The film tells the tale of a love story in high school, described as "simple but very beautiful" by Chou. The singer denied that the storyline was even adapted from his own experience.

Chou also praised the performance of the lead actress Guey Lun-mei, saying that she was typecast as a young student in accordance with the image she plays.

Besides directing the film and acting as the lead actor himself, Jay Chou also performed all the film music, which he describes as "a shinning point".

The film will open to public at the end of July.

Jay's another film effort, Kung-Fu Dunk, is set to debut during the next Chinese New Year holiday.
