Chinese director Feng Xiaogang will contribute to the country's anti-piracy campaign by making a short film for the upcoming Shanghai International Film Festival.
The director of The Banquet was invited by the festival committee to direct A Mother's Pain, which will act as a promotional film for the festival in June.
Shooting is slated to begin this week in Shanghai, with acclaimed actress Li Bingbing playing a hapless new mother who loses her baby to human smugglers.
The stealing-baby plot is a metaphor of pirates ripping off creations, according to the committee.
The screenplay was reportedly selected from nearly 3,000 submissions after the festival announced plans to solicit stories nationwide.
The final story was written by a preschool teacher in Zhengzhou in central China's Henan Province.
