Super Girls Hold Concert in Hong Kong
Adjust font size:

Ten girls from the 2005 and 2006 Super Girl singing competition generated a hot wave of music Tuesday night at Hong Kong's Queen Elizabeth Stadium.

It was the Hong Kong debut for most of the girls.

Many "super" fans flocked to the venue from nearby Shenzhen and Guangzhou.

Second prize winner of the 2006 competition Tan Weiwei did a cover of Hong Kong singer Eason Chan, winning thundering applause. While 2005 champion Li Yuchun pushed the heat to a new high with Michael Jackson's Black or White.

Other performers included Shang Wenjie and the twin duo Reborn.

The young girls gained celebrity from the extremely popular competition, which is described as China's version of "American Idol."

Critics have been quoted calling Tuesday's show a milestone for mainland musicians seeking to enter the Hong Kong market.
