Around 1,000 beauties and handsome gents lined up at a downtown hotel in Shanghai early Saturday to take part in an interview for a flight attendants selection, attracting many curious looks from passers-by.

China News Services reported that the interviewees will compete for only 30 positions provided by Air Macau, a famous airline company in China's south Macau Special Administration Region.

Although young women dominated the applicants, there were also some males candidates trying their luck.

Zhang Xuan, a 1.85 meter tall graduate from Shanghai Jiaotong University is one of them.

"My major was tourism at college, now I am working in the marketing department of a company in Shanghai. Although I have a rather satisfactory monthly income, I still think an air service job is more promising as the tourism industry in Macau is becoming more and more prosperous," he said.

Since the pilots working for Air Macau come from all over the world, the company requests that the applicants should be fluent in English.

Manager of the company's Shanghai office, Qu Ning said that the company has hired flight attendants in different cities from the Chinese mainland before and some of them have been promoted to high-level management positions.

Though the interviewees have to meet several physical requirements, like height and eye sight, the most important evaluation is their overall capabilities, Qu noted.
