A survey into the life style and health of students around Shanghai's universities have found that over 50 percent of those surveyed say they suffer from poor-health, the Shanghai-based Jiefang Daily reports.
The survey, conducted by Shanghai Jiaotong University, covered 1,500 students from eight universities in Shanghai, including Jiaotong University, Fudan University, and Tongji University. It is believed to be the first such survey ever conducted among China's university students.
According to the survey, there are only about 34 percent respondents consider they are healthy.
65 percent of those surveyed said they have poor sleeping quality, while over 80 percent of them confess they need at least an hour to fall asleep. And even 85 percent of them said their poor sleeping has had a direct impact on their daily classes.
The survey has found that, besides playing online games, the heavy homework students are having is considered a key factor for their poor sleeping. The total average class-hours for the current university student are 30 hours per week. 39 percent students complain it takes more than 3 hours for them to do their homework every day.
The survey also found that 48 percent of the students say they have seen their health becoming weaker since they entered university. 68 percent of the respondents say they spent time less than twice a week doing exercises outside their weekly sports class.
