Cut Kids Some Slack, Says Shanghai's Mayor
Adjust font size:

Shanghai mayor Han Zheng is obviously not a strict father. The top officer encourages parents to be more understanding of their children.

Han Zheng expressed his opinion at a meeting Tuesday in response to questions raised about child education.

The open-minded mayor said he fully understands the current phenomenon among the younger generation, which has them use up their monthly salaries without ever thinking to save up. Some adults look upon such behavior with criticism.

However, Han Zheng said parents, instead of issuing blame, should try to understand and offer advice to their children, like a friend.

The father of a grown-up daughter believes young people are brilliant and full of ideas, and, with the guidance of parents, can build a great future of their own.
