Chinese pianist Lang Lang performs the "Yellow River Cantata" on the banks of the Yellow River on Friday, May 11, 2007.

Young Chinese pianist Lang Lang could not hope to perform the Yellow River Cantata at a better venue than the stunning Yellow River itself.

On Friday, Lang Lang sat in front of a piano beside the cascading waters at the Hukou Waterfall to give a passionate rendition of the famous piece composed by Xian Xinghai.

The Hukou Waterfall is the second largest waterfall in China. It is located on the Yellow River in Yichuan County in northwestern China's Shaanxi province.

Qianlong.com website says Hong Kong Phoenix TV arranged the performance to make a film for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.

Lang Lang previously performed the Yellow River Cantata in 2005 at a concert to mark the centenary of Xian Xinghai's birth. He says playing the masterpiece by the river helped him understand it, so he will be able to interpret it better in the future.

The excited tourists at the waterfall said they were moved by Lang Lang's passion.

Xian Xinghai composed the Yellow River Cantata in 1939. Soon after, the piece became a great encouragement for the Chinese people to fight against Japanese aggression.
