South African President Thabo Mbeki has sent a congratulatory letter to his Chinese counterpart Hu Jintao, warmly welcoming the "2006 South Africa Experiences China" Cultural Program, which is being held from Nov.1 to 30 in South Africa.

"I warmly welcome the cultural program which will once again give us a platform further to strengthen our excellent relations with the People's Republic of China," Mbeki said in the letter.

"Let me take this opportunity to convey my best wishes for the success" of the "2006 South Africa Experiences China" visit by the Chinese cultural troupe, he said.

South Africa and China share a common history of struggle which has over the years blossomed into stronger economic and political ties, Mbeki said.

These ties have resulted in mutual cooperation on issues of common interest on poverty eradication, fair trade and endeavor to build a better life for all, the president added.

The program is also an opportunity to engage, share and celebrate the diverse cultures of the two countries "in our endeavour to build strong people to people relations," said the president.

The month-long cultural program includes Shaolin Kongfu, performances featured with songs, dances and costumes from China's Tang Dynasty in addition to other programs that demonstrate Chinese arts and culture.
