Zhang Baoshun, an alternate member of the 16th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), became vice governor and acting governor of Shanxi Province in north China on January 10, 2004.
Zhang's appointment came at the eighth meeting of the Standing Committee of the 10th Shanxi Provincial People's Congress, which also accepted the resignation of former provincial governor Liu Zhenhua.
Zhang, of the Han nationality and born in 1950 in Qinhuangdao City of Hebei Province, was deputy secretary of the CPC Shanxi Provincial Committee before taking over the new job.
Zhang once served as secretary of the Secretariat of the China Communist Youth League's Central Committee, deputy director of Xinhua News Agency and member of the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection.
He became deputy secretary of the CPC Shanxi Provincial Committee in 2001.
He was elected as the governor of Shanxi Province in February 2004.
In June 2005, he was appointed as secretary of the CPC Shanxi Provincial Committee.
