Xu Yongyue (1942-), native of Zhenping, Henan Province.

Graduated from Beijing People's Public Security School; joined CPC, 1972.

Served as secretary of General Offices of Chinese Academy of Sciences and Ministry of Education, 1973-1976; secretary to head of Publicity Department of CPC Central Committee, 1976-1982; secretary of General Office of Ministry of Culture, 1982-1983; political secretary to Comrade Chen Yun, 1983; deputy secretary-general of CPC Central Advisory Commission, 1988.

Appointed Standing Committee member, and secretary of Political and Law Committee, of CPC Hebei Provincial Committee, 1993; appointed deputy secretary of 4th CPC Hebei Provincial Committee, 1994; and elected deputy secretary of 5th CPC Hebei Provincial Committee, 1995-1998.

Alternate member of 15th CPC Central Committee, 1997.

Appointed minister of State Security, March 1998.

Reappointed minister of State Security, March 2003.
