Two draft rules on election of deputies to the Tenth National People's Congress (NPC) from Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions were submitted Saturday to the ongoing annual session of the Ninth NPC for review.
According to the draft rules, 36 deputies will be elected in Hong Kong and 12 in Macao respectively by the two local electoral conferences, with the one in Hong Kong to have about 1,000 members and the one in Macao, about 200 members.
He Chunlin, secretary general of the NPC Standing Committee, explained the two drafts at the NPC session. He said chief executives of the Hong Kong SAR and Macao SAR will be included on the electoral conferences. The draft rules say that election of deputies to the Tenth NPC from Hong Kong and Macao will be presided over by the NPC Standing Committee, which will send people to oversee the elections.
