The Fifth Session of the Ninth National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) opened at the Great Hall of the People Sunday.
Among the Party and state leaders present at the event are Jiang Zemin, Li Peng, Zhu Rongji, Li Ruihuan, Hu Jintao, Wei Jianxing and Li Lanqing.
Attending the opening meeting are more than 2,000 CPPCC National Committee members.
The members are to hear and discuss a report on the work of the Standing Committee of the CPPCC National Committee and a report on the handling of proposals put forward by the CPPCC National Committee members since the end of last year's session.
The session is scheduled to last through March 13.
