Geographical Location Located in the eastern end of the Shandong Peninsula, the city of Weihai faces the sea on three sides. To the east it looks on the Korean Peninsula and Japanese Isles across the sea, and is the shortest route from China to South Korea as the crow flies.
Climate The city is in the temperate marine climate zone characterized by four distinct seasons throughout the year. With an annual mean temperature of 12.1 degree Celsius and an annual average rainfall of 800 millimeters, the city is neither unbearably hot in summer nor extremely cold in winter.
Environment The city of Weihai is one of China's earliest "Model Environmental Cities", and is one of the world's exemplary cities that have been declared to be the most suitable for human residence. Naturally Weihai is one of the famous ports and summer resorts in China.
Communication and Transportation Port Situated right in the Weihai Economic and Technical Development Zone (WETDZ), Weihai Nan'gang Port operates a 50,000-ton dock for handling fluids and liquids, a 20,000-ton container dock and a 20,000-ton coal dock. It's also equipped with a 10,000-ton universal berth and a 5,000-ton passenger pier. Now there are regular services for passenger and cargo transportation from Weihai to Dalian of China, and Inchon of South Korea, and cargo freighters from Weihai to Hong Kong and Japan.
Railway Extending into the port area of the WETDZ, the Taocun-Weihai Railway directly accesses the rail network of North China, which is part of the national railway network via the Jiaozhou-Jinan Railway.
Road The city's density of roads is three times that of the national average, boasting Qingdao-Weihai and Yantai-Weihai ways.
Airport Two airports are within one hour's drive from the Zone, and Weihai Airport lies only 20 kilometers away. In service are 23 passenger and cargo air routes to such destinations as Seoul, Osaka, Hong Kong, Beijing, Tianjin and Shanghai, with over 120 flights per week.
Industrial Structure The eight core industries include automobile, machinery, electronics, textiles, chemicals, pharmaceuticals and building materials.
Investment Priorities The WETDZ encourages investments on such industries as agriculture, high-tech, basic industry, infrastructure, environmental protection and export-oriented industries. Priorities go to electronics, automobile, machinery, pharmaceutics, foods, textiles, chemicals, building materials, transportation, energy, and tourism.
