LANZHOU
Lanzhou Economic and Technological Development Zone
 

Lanzhou Economic & Technological Development Zone(LETDZ) was established in 1993, and was approved as state-level on March 15, 2002. The zone covers an area of 9.53 square kilometers.

 

Geographical Location
Once being a communication fortress and an important commercial town on the Ancient Silk Road with a history of 2000 years, Lanzhou is now a central metropolis in West China in politics, economics, business, culture, science and education, and information., Lanzhou is located in the geometric centre of China's land territory with mountains surrounding in the north and the south and Yellow River passing through from east to west. And the zone lies in An'ning district of the city on the north bank of the Yellow River

Communication and Transportation
Being one of China's 12 major communication centers with the four main railways of Gansu-Lianyungang, Lanzhou-Qinghai, Lanzhou-Xinjing, Baotou-Lanzhou converging there, Lanzhou is a comprehensive communication hub of railways, highways, and aviation. It is also the largest freight station in Northwestern China, one of the important commercial container transportation centers on the new continental bridge connecting Asia and Europe.

It enjoys sophisticated highway networks of 6 expressways, 5 national highways, 6 provincial highways, and 47 county highways. As the aspect of aviation is concerned, Lanzhou Zhongchuan Airport facilitates the landing and passing flights of 8 airline companies, and it has routes to 38 domestic cities and tourism charter flights to Hong Kong and Singapore.

Mineral Resources
Lanzhou and its adjacent area hold in store abundant mineral resources mainly including 35 mineral types within 9 categories, such as black metals, valuable metals, rare earth, energy mines, and so on. Baiyin and Jinchang, which are quite close to Lanzhou, are important producing areas for nickle, lead, cuprum, rare earth, and platinum.

Human Resources
As one of China's key bases for scientific research, Lanzhou boasts 700 various scientific research and development institutions including Lanzhou Branch of Chinese Academy of Sciences. There are 9 state-level key laboratories including Heavy Ion Accelerator Laboratory, and 13 universities and colleges for high education including Lanzhou University. Having about 300 thousand various scientific and technological talents including 13 academicians of Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering, Lanzhou ranks the 4th in density of talented people across the country.

Investment Priorities
Special priorities will be given to the following: namely, information industry, electronic industry, green environment protection industry, biomedicine, foodstuff industry, new type building material industry, fine chemistry, further processing of raw materials, light textile industry, high efficiency agricultural demonstration base, urban infrastructure, road building, municipal construction, land exploitation, hi-tech venture investment enterprises, social intermediary agencies, commerce, cultural recreation, exhibition and convention, science and education, sanitation, and sports industry. Enterprises of the world top 500 are welcome to settle down into the zone to establish research centers for new products and develop new hi-tech businesses.
