Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Sichuan Provincial Committee, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Sichuan People's Congress
Zhang Xuezhong was born in February 1943 in Lanzhou, Gansu Province and joined the CPC in December 1960. He began work in July 1961 before graduating from the Sparetime School of Lanzhou University in 1966 as a major of Chinese language and literature.
He had served as a teacher at the primary school affiliated to the Lanzhou Normal School, secretary at the secretariat of the Gansu Civil Defense Office, secretary at the secretariat of the General Office of the CPC Gansu Provincial Committee, secretary at the office of the headquarters of the Lanzhou Military Command of the People's Liberation Army (PLA), secretary of the CPC Committee of Fafang People's Commune, Wuwei County, secretary of the CPC Committee of Yuzhong County, vice secretary of the CPC Lanzhou Municipal Committee, and secretary of the CPC Longnan Prefectural Committee.
In 1989, he took the office of the vice governor of Gansu Province. From 1990 to Aug. 1994, he served as the vice secretary of the CPC Tibet Regional Committee. In Aug. 1994, he took up the posts as vice minister and vice secretary of the Leading Party Group of the Ministry of Personnel. From June to Dec. 1999, he held a concurrent post as member on the Business Work Committee of CPC. In Nov. 2000, He assumed the office of the secretary of the Leading Party Group of the Ministry of Personnel and became the minister at the ministry in Dec. 2000.
From Dec. 2002, he served as a member, a standing member and secretary of the CPC Sichuan Provincial Committee. In Jan. 2003, he was elected chairman of the Standing Committee of the Sichuan People's Congress at the first session of the 10th Sichuan People's Congress.
He is a member of the 16th CPC Central Committee.
