Adjust font size:

Police have seized a total of 3,078 kg of drugs and arrested 3,764 suspects in southwest China's Yunnan Province this year, according to frontier police authorities.

Yunnan frontier police have cracked 3,793 drug trafficking cases this year, seizing 1,429 kg of heroin, 763 kg of methamphetamine, or "ice", and 866 kg of opium.

The border province carried out eight "frontier hunt campaigns" this year, mobilizing more than 3,000 policemen, to net drug traffickers.

Yunnan also cooperated with police from neighboring Myanmar in anti-drug efforts that led to the arrest of 27 drug trafficking suspects and the confiscation of 220 kg of drugs.

Bordering Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam, Yunnan is caught up in drug trafficking from the Golden Triangle, a notorious drug-producing area along the Mekong River delta.

Last year, Yunnan seized more than 4,000 kg of drugs and arrested 4,600 suspected drug dealers. China seized 6.9 tons of heroin and 5.5 tons of "ice" in 2005.
