Hong Kong saw the volume of total goods exports rise 10.2 percent in August compared with that of the same month last year, while the volume of total goods imports rose 10.1 percent, Hong Kong's Census & Statistics Department said Monday.
In August, Hong Kong's goods re-exports rose 11.5 percent over August 2005, while that of domestic exports fell 6.4 percent.
Comparing the first eight months of 2006 with the same period in 2005, the volume of Hong Kong's re-exports of goods grew 9.6 percent, while that of domestic exports grew substantially, by 23.6 percent.
Taken together, the volume of total exports of goods grew by 10.4 percent. Concurrently, the volume of imports of goods rose 10 percent.
Comparing August 2006 with August 2005, the prices of re-exports of goods rose 1.5 percent, while those of domestic exports fell 0.8 percent. Taken together, the prices of total exports of goods rose 1.3 percent. Concurrently, the prices of imports of goods grew 2.7 percent.
On price changes in the first eight months of 2006 over the same period in 2005, the price of re-exports of goods rose 0.7 percent, while those of domestic exports fell 2.8 percent. Taken together, the prices of total exports of goods grew 0.5 percent. Concurrently, the prices of imports of goods rose 1.8 percent.
