Han Changfu, former deputy governor of northeast China's Jilin Province, was elected governor of the province by the provincial legislature on Wednesday.
Han was elected to the post at the fifth session of the 10th Jilin Provincial People's Congress.
Han, 53, graduated from Renmin University of China with a major in Agronomics.
He served as a Standing Committee member of the Communist Youth League of China (CYLC) Central Committee in the 1980s and 1990s.
Han worked as the Deputy Minister of Agriculture from August 2001 until he was appointed deputy director of the Research Office of the State Council in May 2003.
He was elected acting governor of Jilin in Dec. 2006.
Han is also a member of the 16th Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the Communist Party of China (CPC).
