On Wednesday, November 22nd, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Peoples' Republic of China H.E. Deng Boqing presented his Letter of Credence to the President of the Commonwealth of Dominica H.E. Nicholas J.O. Livepool at the President's Office.

 

At first, H.E. Ambassador Deng Boqing conveyed the cordial greetings and best wishes of His Excellency President Hu Jintao of the People's Republic of China and the Chinese Government and people to His Excellency President Dr. Nicholas Liverpool and the Government and people of the Commonwealth of Dominica. He said the Commonwealth of Dominica is an important country in the Caribbean Region. Dominica is committed to upholding independence and sovereign integrity and enhancing friendship and cooperation with other countries. It is also an active participant in regional integration process and has made important contribution to maintaining stability and promoting development in the region. The Chinese Government and people sincerely wish the Commonwealth of Dominica greater success in national development.

 

The Chinese Ambassador spoke highly of China-Dominica relations. He pointed out that China and Dominica have enjoyed sound and fast growth of friendly relations. There is fruitful bilateral exchanges and cooperation in the political, trade and economic, cultural and educational fields. The two countries have closely cooperated with and supported each other on international and regional issues. China highly appreciate the Dominican Government's adherence to the one China principle.

 

H.E. Deng Boqing said during his posting, he will make every effort to strengthen the friendship between the two peoples and promote the friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries. He is convinced that in carrying out the important mission in Dominica, he shall receive great support and assistance from the Dominican Government and people.

 

H.E. the President Nicholas J.O. Liverpool welcomed H.E. Ambassador Deng Boqing to Dominica and asked Ambassador Deng to convey to the Chinese President H.E. Hu Jintao, the best wishes of the Government and the people of Dominica. The Dominican President said China is a great country in the world. The Dominican Government attaches great importance to the development of Dominica-China relations, and is firmly committed to the one China principle. He noted with great pleasure and satisfaction the rapid growth of friendly ties between the two countries over the past two and a half years. He said that the Government and people of Dominica look forward to strengthening the cooperation with the Chinese Government and people.

 

After the presentation of Letter of Credence, Ambassador Deng paid a courtesy call upon Prime Minister of Dominica Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit. The two sides exchanged views on the promotion of China-Dominica relations. Hon. Skerrit expressed the appreciation of the Government and people of Dominica for the sincere assistance received from China. He said the Dominican Government sticks to the one China principle, and supports China's peaceful reunification. H.E. Ambassador Deng Boqing said the Chinese Government treasures its friendship with Dominica and will work with the Dominican Government to further enhance China-Dominica friendship and cooperation.

 

During the day, the Chinese Ambassador also paid a courtesy call upon Dominica's Foreign Minister Hon. Charles Savarin, and attended the luncheon hosted by Hon. Savarin.
