Worker's Remains Found in Collapsed Subway
Adjust font size:

Rescue workers on Thursday night recovered the remains of one of the workers who were trapped when a Beijing subway construction site collapsed on Wednesday, China News Service reports.

The six trapped workers were given a slim chance of survival when part of the construction site for the new No. 10 Subway Line in the Haidian District collapsed on them at 9:20 AM on Wednesday.

The Beijing Times on Friday reported that the preliminary investigation suggests there has been a cover-up. The officials working at the construction site attempted to rescue the trapped workers themselves, rather than reporting it immediately.

The relatives of the trapped workers started arriving in Beijing on Thursday and are staying at a hotel in the north of the city.

Several construction workers claim they saw cracks and loose soil at the site of the accident on Tuesday, before it collapsed.

Rescuers say the section that collapsed covers around 20 square meters. It's about 11 meters below the ground.

The cause of the collapse is under investigation.

Rescue operation is being carried out to save six workers who were buried underground after a subway construction site collapsed in Beijing on Wednesday morning, March 28, 2007.
