An earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale shook the sea area of Taiwan at about 11:13 AM(0313 GMT) Tuesday, according to a bulletin released by the Hong Kong Observatory Tuesday.
The epicenter was determined to be located at 24.0 degrees north latitude and 122.4 degrees east longitude, about 140 km east of Hualien of Taiwan.
There has been no immediate casualty report by the press time.
